These include the National Association of Underwater Instructors and Professional Association of Diving Instructors.

NAUI Master Scuba Diver

The most popular certification in recreational diving is the NAUI Master Scuba Diver. The course requires that students complete an introductory dive, at most two open-water dives, as well as a rescue dive. This is a continuous education program that emphasizes classroom discussion, practical applications, and student participation. Students must complete E-learning courses prior to their first session, as well as complete a minimum of 23 hours of classroom study with an instructor. This course covers topics such as deep diving, diving physics, search and retrieval, and equipment. Students must pass an exam that tests their water skills, similar to those required by a NAUI Assistant Instructor.
