The backplate and wing are two separable components of a scuba harness. Each part is attached to a buoyancy compensater that creates neutral buoyancy underwater, and positive buoyancy above the surface. Backplate and wing are modular systems, with each component separable from the other. They are a good option for scuba divers that aren't sure which type to get. These are the pros & cons of each.
Stainless Steel
With or without a helmet, the stainless steel backplate and wings can be made from either stainless steel. 316 stainless-steel is used for the backplate and wings and is highly resistant to saltwater. It is cut with a CNC machine and polished manually to avoid sharp edges that can prematurely wear the strap. They can also work with single- or dual-air tanks. The stainless steel backplate and wings can be detached for easier storage.

Backplates made from stainless steel are much heavier than those made of aluminium. Stainless Steel backplates are ideal for colder climates where they will decrease the weight that you'll be carrying during your dive. Stainless Steel backplates are much easier to fit than lead pieces. A Halcyon Dealer can provide weighting advice to determine what's appropriate for your body weight. You don't have as many to replace the backplate.
Plastic
While the buoyancy of the plastic back plate and wing is negative, it is still advantageous when replacing the weight on the weightbelt. Jacket BCDs have pockets and weight integration. These ancillary options are not available on the backplate and wings. These components can be purchased separately. These components can be purchased separately. This article will explain the pros and disadvantages of each. It is important to choose the right back plate for you.
Softpack harness
There are many types of harnesses available for wings and back plates. These include wing BCDs and backplates. They contain all the essential components like a harness, backplate and wing. The user can customize the harness by adding a variety of adjustable features. Softpack BCDs, which are lightweight and flexible, are great for technical divers.

The problem with steel backplate harnesses, however, is their inability to be adjusted. The harness is not intended to be used with single tanks. Although the steel harness is the strongest option, it is cumbersome to use while traveling. It can only be used for double tanks. Also, the steel backingplate may not work well on land. Although it can be used with single tanks by attaching adapters this is not recommended.
