Certification requirements

If you'd like to work as a dive master, you'll need to complete a course to learn the skills you need to be a successful Divemaster. The minimum number of dives candidates need to have completed must be at least 60. Divemasters are able to assist new divers in their theory and skills through teaching them.


Dive masters need to pass two parts of the exam in addition to taking classes. The candidates must score at the least 75% on each portion of the exam in order to pass. Candidates will be using the PADI Instructor Handbook and the eRDPML for the exam. Students will need to prepare an Emergency Assistance Plan and perform five waterskills exercises. At least fifteen points must be combined. The course must be completed before certification can be granted to divemasters.

Internship requirement

You have many internship options for becoming a Divemaster. Depending on your preference, you can assist with other PADI Courses or set up dive sites. It is possible that you will be asked to assist in skill circuits. However, the internship will have a set pattern. An average internship lasts eight weeks. During the same time, you might become an Advanced Open Water Diver. After four to 6 weeks of training you can become an Advanced Open Water Diver or Divemaster.

Even though free internships may not be ideal, they will allow you to get valuable advice and study from a Divemaster. Additionally, you may be able to receive the necessary manuals, certification, and equipment as part of your internship.
